I replaced older J&M headsets with this model. I would not do it again. The mass of wires and plugs makes installation frustrating. The 8 pin to 5 pin additional cord requirement seems to be J&M's method of selling more cords. The old headsets performed well and were all one piece.

Audio quality and mikes are ok for intercom, but not for music.

had the same for two years, one went bad due to switching from one helmet to another. i pinched one of the speaker cords so i will buy additional ones in the future for the other helmets. so be very careful when installing not to do as i did. have nothing bad to say about the sound quality, i feel it is excellent.

These are the best sounding headsets I have used. Like any small speaker you must have them mounted close to your ears to get good sound. If you take any stereo headphones and lift them even a inch from your ears you will loose most bass and mid range sound.I have these installed so they push the cloth on my helmets ear pockets out so they just barley touch my ears and they sound better then the speakers on my 08 GL1800. More bass and just a better sound. They were also very easy to install in my HJC FS-3 3/4 helmet. We rode yesterday at 75mph into and sideways to a 20mph wind with no wind noise from the mic.

My results with this headset were similar to that of other reviewers. The installation was pretty straightforward. The intercom portion works great -- we just returned from a 11 hours trip in very windy conditions and the intercom worked great. However, when using the headset for the radio or MP3 player, the headset does not perform well. As others have said, with the external speakers at 10 or 11, I'd have to turn the volume up to 23-25 to hear through the headphones, and it sounded very tinny and distant. My wife said they sounded like listening to music through the headphones on an airplane. I mainly got this version because it had better mics than the cheaper J&M headset. Now I'm wondering if I should have saved my money and bought the cheaper headset. It you want it for the intercom, this is a good headset, but if you want to listen to music through it, I'm not so sure.
